Liam Gallagher has accused his brother Noel’s wife of thwarting plans for an Oasis reunion.
Liam and his estranged sibling have been at odds since breaking up the band in 2009, often exchanging insults in the press and on social media – with Noel, 50, previously explicitly ruling out an Oasis comeback.
However, the Wall of Glass singer, 45, says he believes his brother secretly wants to reunite, but that his wife, PR guru Sara MacDonald, is stopping him.
“He’s desperate to get Oasis back but he knows he’s crossed that bridge,” Liam tells British music magazine Q. “And he’s not allowed to, his missus (Sara) won’t let him now, cos (because) she’s another one.”
Noel has gone in a new musical direction with his band the High Flying Birds’ third studio album Who Built the Moon?, and Liam thinks his brother is catering to musical snobs rather than rock fans.
“I know for a fact, deep down, he wants to be playing stadiums… You can only play stadiums when I’m there,” he explains. “I don’t think our kid’s got it in him anymore, anyway. It seems to me like he’s playing to the snobs and the world and the toffs.”
Criticizing Noel’s new record, he adds, “I just think they’re s**t songs with a bit of weird production on it. If you just took it away and played them songs on acoustic guitar they’re not very good. He’s making out as if he’s on some kind of cosmic journey but I don’t think it’s all that.”
Liam’s latest comments definitively end the brothers’ apparent Christmas truce, as he had claimed they were “all good again” before the festive season.
Before they halted hostilities, Noel had complained that his sibling’s outbursts on social media had resulted in his family receiving abuse online.
“People are coming after my family and one particular person (Liam) has legitimised it, and for that reason, you’ve seen the last of Oasis,” he told BBC Radio 4.
