Lindsay Lohan’s big screen comeback has been given a much-needed boost – her movie The Canyons has reportedly been added to the line-up for the 2013 Venice Film Festival.
The erotic thriller, written by American Psycho author Bret Easton Ellis, was denied screening slots at a string of recent film festivals last year, with organisers of Texas’ South by Southwest (SXSW) rejecting it over “quality issues”.
It was on the verge of becoming a major flop as a result of the snubs, but it was given a reprieve in February when it landed a cinema distribution deal with IFC Films for the North American rights.
It will have a limited opening in select markets at the start of August, but it has also been chosen to screen at Italy’s Venice Film Festival, where director Paul Schrader is set to serve on the jury, according to the New York Post’s Page Six column.
The Venice Film Festival is due to kick off on 28 August and will run until 7 September.
The timing of The Canyons’ release is good for Lohan – she will complete her 90-day court-ordered rehab program in early August.
