Country singer Luke Bryan has reportedly signed on to join Katy Perry as the second judge on the American Idol reboot.
The That’s My Kind of Night hitmaker received an offer to join the TV competition show earlier this month and, according to Deadline, he has now signed on. According to the website, TV bosses are still on the hunt for a third judge and singer Charlie Puth is still in the running.
Lionel Richie was also being considered, but it seems he is no longer in the mix.
Kelly Clarkson was previously offered a judging gig on the show, but she had to turn it down after accepting a spot on rival show The Voice.
“I want it to be a great experience for my whole family, and that’s what I have to think about at this point in my life,” Kelly, who is mother to two children and two stepchildren with husband Brandon Blackstock, told Entertainment Weekly magazine. “We’re used to The Voice schedule, we already have to work around it because of our family. We have four children – that can be very taxing with a schedule.
“It was just a no-brainer for me with The Voice because of that alone. But my thing is, I was kind of bummed too when Idol came to me. I hope it’s super successful.”
Katy will be receiving a whopping $25 million for her judging work after accepting the gig earlier this year and Ryan Seacrest is returning to host the show for a reported $15 million .
The American Idol revival will broadcast next year.
