Nelson Mandela was admitted to hospital on Saturday to undergo a stomach operation.
The former South African president is recovering after an “investigative laparoscopy”, in which a tiny camera is inserted into the abdomen, to diagnose the cause of his chronic abdominal pain.

Current President Jacob Zuma has assured citizens the 93-year-old anti-apartheid leader is to be discharged on Sunday or Monday.

A statement from Zuma reads, “He was in good health before admission in hospital but doctors felt the complaint needed a thorough investigation. We are happy that he is not in any danger and thank the doctors for their hard work and professionalism.

“(He) is fine and fully conscious and the doctors are satisfied with his condition, which they say is consistent with his age.”
