Marilyn & Tinker Are Big Hits Among BAFTA Voters

British films My Week With Marilyn and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy look set to have a big night at the 2012 British Academy Film Awards after each landing 16 nods on the organisation’s “longlist”.
Both make the cut for Best Picture, Best Director and Best Screenplay, while Michelle Williams, KennethBranagh, Eddie Redmayne, Judi Dench, and Zoe Wanamaker are all mentioned for My Week With Marilyn and Gary Oldman, Benedict Cumberbatch, Colin Firth, John Hurt and Kathy Burke all feature among the celebrated actors and actresses.

The Iron Lady picks up 14 mentions on the list, while The Artist, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, Midnight in Paris and War Horse land 13 – one more than The Help, Hugo and Drive.

Oscars favourites Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, Melancholia and Martha Marcy May Marlene failed to score among BAFTA voters, while Terrence Malick’s acclaimed The Tree of Life earned just one mention for cinematography.

The BAFTA nominations will be announced on 17 January and the Orange British Academy Film Awards ceremony will take place in London on 12 February, when Martin Scorsese will be honored with the BAFTA Fellowship.
