Actor Matthew Fox is still “embarrassed” by his May DUI arrest in Oregon, insisting he should have known better than to get behind the wheel of a car after a night out with friends.
The former Lost star insists he’ll never be caught drink driving again and has vowed to leave the car keys behind as soon as alcohol touches his lips in future.
But Fox is still upset with himself for not learning from old friends’ mistakes.
He tells talk show host Ellen DeGeneres, “I grew up in a place where you had to drive 60 miles to go to town and hang out with your friends, so from a very early age that’s just what we did, and I lost friends in high school who were drinking and driving and had accidents on the highway, so I should have known better and yet I did that off and on throughout my life.
“Fortunately I didn’t hurt anybody – and then learned this lesson… It’ll never happen again.”
The star was charged with two misdemeanours, driving under the influence (DUI) and driving without a license, after his car was pulled over by police in Bend. He pleaded no contest to one count of DUI, and was ordered to complete a drug and alcohol treatment program.
