Mick Jagger learned the devastating news his girlfriend had been found dead while dining at top Perth, Australia restaurant Coco’s.
L’Wren Scott took her own life at her Manhattan apartment on Monday morning as her boyfriend of almost 13 years was preparing for the Rolling Stones’ first date on a tour of Australia and New Zealand. The dates have since been postponed following the tragedy.
Now, details of how and where the rocker received the terrible news have emerged, thanks to Coco’s manager Denise Zammit, who tells Closer magazine that Jagger was in high spirits just before a member of his entourage alerted him to the news of his girlfriend’s death.
Zammit says, “He’d been there about an hour. He had a seafood entree and a main meal of local fish, and then somebody from his entourage came in.
“Before that he was talking to our waiter, who is also English, and he was having a great time with him. They were talking about England and where he’d been in Perth and all the things he’d been doing.”
But Jagger left “pretty quickly” after learning of Scott’s death.
Zammit adds, “He shook the waiter’s hand and said, ‘I’m sorry, I have to leave’, and he said he’d had a great night… It’s just devastating for somebody to get that news… It was a beautiful evening, the weather was stunning… He was just having an easy-going, relaxed dinner.”
Jagger has since posted a tribute to Scott on his website, which read in part, “I am still struggling to understand how my lover and best friend could end her life in this tragic way. We spent many wonderful years together and had made a great life for ourselves.”
