Liam Neeson is set to step into Mel Gibson’s shoes and take over his high-profile cameo in The Hangover sequel.
The Braveheart star was expected to make his career comeback with a guest role in the upcoming comedy after a tough few months following his split from ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva, who has accused the actor of beating her during a violent altercation earlier this year.

However, his light-hearted appearance was axed this week following reports the movie’s cast angrily objected to sharing the spotlight with the troubled star.

In a statement, director Todd Phillips said: “I thought Mel would have been great in the movie and I had the full backing of (Warner Brothers boss) Jeff Robinov and his team. But I realize filmmaking is a collaborative effort, and this decision ultimately did not have the full support of my entire cast and crew.”

Neeson has been approached to replace Gibson and he’s finalising talks to star as a tattoo artist – a role which would see him reunited with his The A-Team co-star Bradley Cooper.

Neeson tells trade paper Variety, “I just got a call to do a one day shoot on Hangover as a tattooist in Thailand… That’s all I know about it.”

The funny film also stars Zach Galifianakis, Justin Bartha and Ed Helms.
