Former South African President and humanitarian icon Nelson Mandela is fighting for life in a Pretoria hospital after his condition became critical over the weekend.
Mandela, 94, was hospitalized on 8 June for a recurring lung infection. Prior to the weekend, his condition had been described as serious but stable.
In a statement released on Sunday, the country’s current leader Jacob Zuma insists doctors are doing “everything possible” to keep Mandela alive, adding, “He is in good hands.”
