Movie legends Peter O’toole and Elizabeth Taylor enjoyed a brief romantic fling while the actress was married to her fourth husband Eddie Fisher, according to a new book.
American authors Darwin Porter and Danforth Prince claim the Lawrence of Arabia star had an affair with Taylor in the early 1960s in their new biography Peter O’Toole: Hellraiser, Sexual Outlaw, Irish Rebel.
Porter and Prince allege the fling began with a tryst at The Dorchester hotel in London and “severely tested” O’Toole’s friendship with drinking buddy Richard Burton, who also had feelings for Taylor.
The biographers claim she initially wanted her lover O’Toole to portray Mark Anthony in 1963 blockbuster Cleopatra, but the role went to Burton, who famously romanced Taylor on the set – and then went on to marry her twice.
But Prince tells WENN that O’Toole’s fling with Taylor didn’t end when his pal started romancing her.
He explains, “Peter O’Toole met his match when he became best friends with two other world class boozers, Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton. He followed them to Rome for Cleopatra and to Mexico, where they were filming The Night of the Iguana.
“The film’s director, John Huston, claimed that one night, Taylor, Burton, and O’Toole had a three-way fueled by agave tequila.”
The book, which is set for release next month (Jun15), also claims O’Toole bedded Vivien Leigh, Ava Gardner and Britain’s Princess Margaret.
