Australian actor Matthew Newton has thanked his family and fans for their continued support after completing his stint in rehab.
The Underbelly: A Tale of Two Cities star checked into a private hospital in Sydney last year to seek help for an undisclosed illness, following his alleged attack on former fiancee, Transformers actress Rachael Taylor.

Newton has since been discharged but is still being treated by experts.

He tells Australia’s Daily Telegraph, “For the last five months I have been receiving full-time care and treatment for what specialists recently determined was a long-term and undiagnosed ailment.

“The details of the ailment are at this stage a personal and private matter. Although I have now left the Northside West Clinic I am continuing with ongoing treatment and will be for the foreseeable future.

“(I am) extremely grateful for the support I have received from friends, family and members of the public. While I understand and appreciate the media interest I respectfully ask that we are given some privacy.”
