TV titan-turned-actress Oprah Winfrey is determined to make the move to the Broadway stage after returning to the big screen in Lee Daniels’ new movie The Butler.
The talk show icon, who landed an Oscar nomination for her film debut in Steven Spielberg’s The Color Purple in 1985, had not acted for 15 years before appearing as Forest Whitaker’s onscreen wife in the historical drama, about an African-American butler who worked in the White House and served under eight consecutive U.S. Presidents.
In 2011, Winfrey revealed she had started reading through scripts for potential Broadway projects, but two years later, she is still searching for the perfect role.
She tells the New York Daily News, “Broadway is definitely in my future. Nothing is set as of yet, but it’s there. I see it. Broadway is in my future.”
