The latest sequel in the Pirates Of The Caribbean franchise has sailed to the top of the British box office chart with the biggest opening figures of the year so far.
Johnny Depp and Penelope Cruz’s turn in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides has already broken records internationally, banking a staggering $346.4 million over the weekend to score the world’s biggest debut ever.

And the fourth installment of the swashbuckling film series has struck gold in the U.K. too, grossing $18.56 million to enter the movie chart at number one.

However, it wasn’t enough to topple its prequel, At World’s End – the third Pirates outing earned $21.44 million when it opened in 2007.

Fast Five, released in Britain as Fast & Furious 5: Rio Heist, remained in second place, while action epic Thor dropped from first to third place.
