Fans of Psy’s 2012 megahit Gangnam Style may be out of luck if they want to see the South Korean pop sensation perform the track in 2013 – he is considering retiring the track after a whirlwind year.
Arguably the biggest song of 2012, Gangnam Style smashed records online as fans checked out the high-energy dance video and it hit the top of the charts all over the world, but Psy appears to be sick of performing the galloping dance routine.
And his New Year’s Eve performance in New York’s Times Square may have been the swansong for the track.
Prior to his live performance during Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve show on Monday night, Psy told MTV, “Being in Times Square on New Year’s Eve is already special – it’s the biggest stage in the universe – plus it’s my birthday, so, with all that, it may be the ending of Gangnam Style.
“I mean, what better way to do it? It’s my biggest and most meaningful birthday.”
Psy, real name Park Jae-sang, turned 35 on 31 December.
