Country singer Randy Travis has undergone surgery following his hospitalisation on Sunday, according to his sister-in-law.
The 54-year-old star was admitted to a medical center in Dallas, Texas after suffering complications stemming from a recently diagnosed viral cardiomyopathy, a heart condition caused by an infection.
He was said to be in a critical condition after his admission to hospital, and his sister-in-law Teresa Traywick has now revealed the singer has undergone an operation.
Traywick, who is married to Travis’ brother Ricky, tells People.com, “We have been told he has had surgery. Our prayers are going out to him.”
She also claims heart problems must run in the family as the star’s brother suffered a similar health crisis in 2012.
She adds, “My husband just had a heart attack last year, so it is in their family… Their mother passed away at an early age with her heart… My prayers are with them (the rest of the family). That’s all I can say right now.”
Travis’ planned show in Deadwood, South Dakota on Wednesday has been cancelled in light of the star’s hospitalisation.
