Red Hot Chili Peppers and The Cure have landed nominations to be inducted into the prestigious Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s class of 2011.
The bands join artists including previous nominees Guns N’ Roses, Beastie Boys, and Laura Nyro, who are also among the 15 finalists in the running to be recognized with the coveted honor.

The Faces, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, The Spinners and Chaka Khan’s band Rufus have, along with The Cure, been named in the nominations shortlist for the first time.

Music industry experts will now cast their votes to decide who should be inducted during the prestigious ceremony, with the top five set to be announced in January.

They will then be inducted into the Hall of Fame in April in Cleveland, Ohio.

Guns N’ Roses guitarist Gilby Clarke says, “It’s a great honor. The band deserves it.”

To be eligible for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, acts must have released their first songs at least 25 years ago.
