Reese Witherspoon is being sued for allegedly stealing the idea for the 2014 film Gone Girl, which she produced.
The actress helped develop the screen adaptation of the 2012 novel and now a writer claims she took the idea for the story. According to TMZ, Leslie Weller maintains she wrote a screenplay in 2005 called Out of the Blue, which is strikingly similar to Gillian Flynn’s thriller. Both center on crumbling marriage and feature a wife who is seemingly perfect but, in reality, is orchestrating a devious plot to destroy her husband.
Weller also says her script is structured similarly to the novel in that the wife’s true nature is revealed as part of a plot twist. She is also suing Flynn, who penned the screenplay for the film, and the director of the Oscar-nominated hit, David Fincher.
