Moviemaker Richard Linklater is celebrating after winning a surprise lifetime achievement award on Monday at the Berlin International Film Festival in Germany.
The director was at the event to screen his latest film, Before Midnight starring Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy, which landed a distribution deal at the festival.
However, there was more good news in store for Linklater – he was honored with the prestigious Berlinale Camera in recognition of his Hollywood career.
Italian actress Isabella Rossellini was also handed a Berlinale Camera at the 63rd annual Berlin International Film Festival.
Linklater has fond memories of the festival after winning a Best Director trophy in 1995 for Before Sunrise, the first in Hawke and Delpy’s romantic trilogy.
