Country star Rodney Atkins is hosting a benefit concert to raise funds for those affected by the tornadoes which ripped through Oklahoma last month.
Twisters devastated the area around Oklahoma City on Friday killing at least 18 people, including Tim Samaras, star of the Discovery Channel’s Storm Chasers, less than two weeks after another deadly storm ripped through the area, killing 20 people.
Atkins is now pouring his efforts into helping those affected by the disaster by staging his third annual charity concert, Music City Gives Back, on Tuesday with all proceeds going towards the Oklahoma tornado relief effort.
Joining Atkins on stage at the event in Nashville, Tennessee will be Justin Moore, Jana Kramer and Josh Thompson, and fans are encouraged to give cash as well as donations of duct tape, work gloves, flashlights and other useful materials.
Atkins says, “Each year I gather some of my friends together to put on this show and have fun with our fans… but the reason we get up here is to help the community come together to give our support to those in need. With the recent disaster in Moore (Oklahoma), I knew that’s where we had to focus our efforts this year.”
Fellow country singer Blake Shelton pulled in $6 million for the tornado relief effort in Oklahoma with a TV fundraiser last week.
