Shia Labeouf’s Nymphomaniac co-stars have voiced their support for the actor following his decision to walk the red carpet at the film’s premiere with a paper bag over his head.
The actor sparked fears for his mental health when he walked out of a press conference at the Berlin International Film Festival in Germany earlier this month and later attended the Nymphomaniac screening wearing the now-infamous bag.
It was scrawled with the words ‘I am not famous any more’ and his co-star Stellan Skarsgard is convinced LaBeouf’s meltdowns stems from living in the spotlight since he launched his career as a child actor.
Skarsgard also tells the BBC he was “totally fine” with LaBeouf’s headline-grabbing stunt at the Berlinale premiere: “It’s some kind of reaction to the sort of superficial celebrity hype of the world – he has been in the limelight since he was a kid. It’s either a protest of some kind or desperation… but I’m totally fine with it. If he wants to appear with a paper bag on his head he should.”
Fellow Nymphomaniac star Stacy Martin found the stunt highly amusing. She adds, “I thought it was hilarious… If you’re going to do something like that you have to go full on so heads up for him (sic).”
