The Flaming Lips frontman Wayne Coyne battled ill health to return to the stage in London this week after cancelling the band’s first show in the British capital.
The musicians axed their concert at London’s Roundhouse venue on Monday after the singer fell sick, and the gig was pushed back until next week.
Coyne was still battling a sore throat as he returned to the stage with the band at the Roundhouse on Tuesday night and apologized to the crowd for his croaky voice.
However, Coyne insisted his sickness was nothing compared to the suffering of the victims of the tornado disaster which devastated the band’s home state of Oklahoma on Monday.
He told the crowd at the gig, “I feel a whole lot better (but) being sick is pretty petty (compared to the events in Oklahoma)… This (gig) is a ridiculous event. It’s not important. This is what you do when you can’t do anything else.”
Coyne also commented on the tornado disaster in a series of posts on his page, revealing he had been watching the events unfold on TV during the band’s trip to London.
At least 24 people were killed when a massive tornado ripped through the town of Moore, Oklahoma, levelling two schools and devastating residential areas.
