The cast of the troubled Spider-Man musical are starting the new year with good news – the production has been named Broadway’s best-selling show.
Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark, which features music by U2 stars Bono and The Edge, has been mired in delays and spiralling costs over the last 12 months, while a number of actors have sustained serious injuries since previews began in November.

But despite the safety concerns, the superhero show is proving wildly popular with the public – it has knocked long-running musical Wicked from the top of the Broadway box office chart.

Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark, which doesn’t officially open until next month, has topped the weekly list after earning a massive $1.6 million. But the fight for the top spot was a narrow one – the musical earned just $58 more than second place Wicked, according to Variety.
