The Flaming Lips and Fatboy Slim were among the acts who kicked off Britain’s Bestival festival on Friday with birthday celebrations to mark the event’s 10th year.
This week’s 10th anniversary festival got underway with sets from acts including Bombay Bicycle Club, Jessie Ware and the Wu-Tang Clan on Friday, while The Flaming Lips drew a huge crowd for their spectacular show.
The rockers ended their set by singing Happy Birthday as one of the final songs in tribute to the milestone, with frontman Wayne Coyne telling the crowd, “We were here last night and it was one of the best f**king times we’ve ever had. I couldn’t wake up today until 4.30 in the afternoon. I feel I’ve had a true Bestival experience. This is the 10th birthday, let’s hope it lasts for another thousand years.”
Headliner Fatboy Slim also turned his show into a massive birthday celebration, screening a video of himself blowing out candles on a massive cake, while the crowd chanted Happy Birthday.
Rapper Snoop Dogg headlines Saturday night, and Sir Elton John closes the festival on Sunday.
