Sharon Stone and Hilary Swank were among the Hollywood stars who flew to India to raise money for AIDS research at a glittering gala in Mumbai on Sunday night.
Basic Instinct star Stone mixed with the Bollywood elite by co-hosting the amfAR India gala at the Taj Mahal Palace hotel with superstar Abhishek Bachchan and his actress wife Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.
Speaking before the event, Stone revealed her involvement came about after a meeting with Rai Bachchan in Cannes, France, saying, “It is very kind of Aishwarya and Abhishek to support this cause. It all started in Cannes two years ago when she came up to me. It’s wonderful to be here with her. More people should come forward to lend a helping hand.”
Rai Bachchan adds, “This is (the) first event of amfAR in India and I am confident we will have several more to come in our country. I hope we all collectively raise funds, spread awareness and strengthen the force.”
The event, which raised money for The American Foundation for AIDS Research, also featured a performance from pop star Ke$ha, a charity auction, and a fashion show by some of India’s top designers.
