Funnyman Steve Martin and his bluegrass band The Steep Canyon Rangers have stepped in to replace Mumford & Sons as headliners at the 40th annual Telluride Bluegrass Festival on Thursday.
The British group has pulled out of a string of shows to allow bassist Ted Dwane time to recover from brain surgery – the musician underwent an operation to remove a blood clot last week.
The band pulled the plug on an appearance at the Bonnaroo festival in Tennessee last weekend and its slot was filled at the last minute by Jack Johnson.
Now Martin and his band, featuring Paul Simon’s singer/songwriter wife Edie Brickell, will fill in for the I Will Wait hitmakers in Colorado.
