Taylor Swift’s chart-topping new album Red has taken just a week to become America’s third biggest-selling release of 2012.
The album sold a massive 1.2 million copies to claim the top spot on the Billboard 200 on Wednesday.
It’s the biggest sales week for an album artist since Eminem’s The Eminem Show opened with 1.3 million sales in 2002.
Swift sold almost a million more copies of Red than second placed Kendrick Lamar, whose Good Kid, M.A.A.D. City debuts at two on the new countdown.
Last week’s number one album, Night Train by Jason Aldean, slips to three and Mumford & Sons’ Babel also drops two spots to four.
Tony Bennett rounds out the new top five at five with the debut of his new release Viva Duets.
Meanwhile, on the singles chart, Maroon 5 score a sixth week at the top with One More Night and Psy’s Gangnam Style spends a fifth week at number two.
