Justin Timberlake has defended his ex-girlfriend Britney Spears against “cruel” internet comments, branding online detractors cowardly for throwing insults at her over the web.
Spears has been the target of online critics who have been posting videos of her early performances and comparing them with her current shows.

Timberlake, whose romance with Spears came to an end in 2002, is furious about the vitriol aimed at his former lover, telling Playboy magazine, “What a f**ked up thing to do… (The internet is a) cruel place… People think they can say anything and it doesn’t matter to people. I’d love to see the people who comment about Britney online say those things to her face, because they couldn’t.

“Also, in Britney’s defense, if you pulled up a video I did from 2003, I couldn’t do the s**t I did then either.”
