TV personality Judge Joe Brown was arrested on Monday – for contempt of court.
The former host of Judge Joe Brown is behind bars in Memphis, Tennessee after allegedly becoming verbally abusive towards Juvenile Court Magistrate Harold Horne during a child support hearing.
Shelby County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Chip Washington confirms the arrest to ABC News, saying, “Right now, he’s being processed at our facility,” adding that Brown’s sentence is five days in jail.
Juvenile Court Chief Magistrate Dan Michael tells newspaper Commercial Appeal that Brown, who is currently running for District Attorney in Shelby County, arrived at the courthouse and began mingling with people, asking them for their votes.
He says that Brown sat in the courtroom for 20 minutes before approaching Horne at the bench to protest delays.
Michael says, “He all but had that courtroom in a riot. He (then) began a diatribe against Mr. Horne and the authority of the court.”
Brown continued to protest after a warning from Horne, who subsequently added four additional counts of contempt of court.
Brown, whose courtroom TV series aired for 15 years, is a former Criminal Court judge for Shelby County.
