Usher’s ex-wife Tameka Raymond was “angry” to discover the superstar was not at home when their eldest son almost drowned in his swimming pool last week, but insists she does not “blame” him for the accident.
The former couple’s five-year-old child, Usher Raymond V, ended up in a hospital intensive care unit in Atlanta, Georgia after getting his arm stuck in a pool drain while trying to retrieve a toy.
The incident prompted a new fight for custody as Raymond objected to the Yeah! hitmaker, who has primary custody, leaving their kids with his aunt, Rena Oden, instead of giving her the chance to step in to take care of them.
A Georgia judge dismissed Raymond’s bid for custody during an emergency court hearing on Friday, and now she has spoken out about the whole ordeal in an interview with breakfast show Good Morning America.
During the chat, which aired on Wednesday, Raymond admitted she knew something was wrong as soon as she received the phone call from her ex, and it brought back memories of her 11-year-old son Kile’s death last summer following a tragic jet ski accident.
Recalling the moment she was alerted to little Usher’s hospitalisation, she explained, “I said, ‘I’ve had this call before.'”
Raymond revealed she was “angry” about the pool mishap because the star was nowhere near the boys when it happened, but she added, “I didn’t blame him (Usher) for it. I was just angry that it happened on his watch. Never have my children been injured on my watch.”
Raymond, aka Tameka Foster, went on to insist that she does not hate Usher, but will continue her custody fight to expand her limited parental rights.
She said, “I would like to have my first right of refusal, which means when he is not present, the kids come home to their mom.”
Their eldest son has since recovered from the incident and been discharged from hospital.
