Hollywood action man Bruce Willis was caught up in a real life drama on Sunday when a faulty escalator sped out of control and forced the actor to jump to safety.

The Die Hard star was on his way to a screening of his new movie Red at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York with his publicist Paul Bloch when a moving walkway they were travelling on suddenly accelerated – sending fellow pedestrians into a panic.

A source tells New York Post gossip column Page Six, “The escalator taking guests down to the theatre accelerated to near-carnival-ride speed. Women started screaming and one did a high-flying jump off, nearly landing on Bruce.”

And Bloch admits the pair was forced to leap off the walkway to avoid injury, adding, “We had to jump, it was going so fast.”
