Brian Wilson’s colourful life story is to be retold in a big screen biopic of the Beach Boys frontman.
The rights to Wilson’s story, as well as that of his wife Melinda, have been bought up by movie bosses with plans to turn their tale into a film.

The script will be written by Oren Moverman, who tackled the screenplay for controversial Bob Dylan movie I’m Not There, which saw six actors, including Cate Blanchett, take on roles inspired by aspects of the folk legend’s life.

The film will document Wilson’s musical career as well as his nervous breakdown during the making of Beach Boys’ Smile album in the 1960s and his subsequent struggle with mental health issues, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Wilson has previously been played onscreen by Frederick Weller in 2000 TV film The Beach Boys: An American Family, while the band’s music will be used as the basis for an upcoming movie musical about California’s 1960s surfing scene.
