Talk show queen Oprah Winfrey has jetted in to earthquake-ravaged Haiti to join actor Sean Penn as they visit a camp set up for victims of the disaster.
The presenter was given a tour of the encampment at a former golf course, which has been home to thousands of Haitians since the tremor last year caused devastation in the region.

Penn, who has been at the forefront of relief efforts in the country, joined Winfrey on the visit, telling the Press Association he welcomes the interest of “the world’s most elegant woman” because he hopes it will help raise awareness.

He adds, “Everybody who has spent time in Haiti knows how important it is for the world to see what is going on here. We really appreciate that she’s here with us.”

Winfrey, who arrived in Haiti on Monday, says, “This is part of the next chapter, going around the world to see interesting and fascinating cases of profound examples of what can be done to make a difference in the world.”

The chat show host will feature Penn’s work in Haiti on a special program on her Oprah Winfrey Network.
